we watched the washer
tumbling all our dirty clothes in filthy water
i heard you say my name but we never looked away
there was nothing of color just as bleak as before
always looking like it were to turn the other way but it never did change
we waited there for hours
and when we left the dryers there were little mountains of snow outside
i said you go, i'm gonna stay here awhile
he just nodded and walked away like he had years ago
i sat atop an ice peak and felt my face let go
those tears that i knew so well brought back some old memories
every one causing the pain and all exactly the same
every dumb boy and my never ever, so long, goodbye father
his absence sending my life in whirls
going and going from nowhere but from where i was afore
