The subway king.
Riding on the plastic seats
Poised like hungry teeth
Out where the rails sing
Of departures and arrivals
Sad little terminals
Stretch from here to infinity.
The gum beneath you
Is a subway heirloom
Another subject in your florescent kingdom,
One more object in the treasury
A companion in the feeling
Of the car you are in
Jerking out of the station
And spewing light into the nothing
That lives 'neath your city
An oasis of inhumanity.
